The Lord judgement is equal.

 Gen 4:11-15

"11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;

12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him."

The Lord's judgment and Mercy extend to all even to the first murderer, Cain. The Lord could have punished Cain more severely. If you have read any other book of the bible you would know the Lord has the ability and power to cause far more damage to those who do something He sees as doing something wrong.

But the Lord showed mercy to Cain and made sure that no one would be able to harm him as he was forced to live out his days knowing that he was no longer able to be with his family or work the land in the way that his family had in the past.

This was a sign early on that the Lord himself has a judgment all his own that is beyond our understanding. If we as humans read this, we would view this situation in a different matter, but that is why our God is one who sees the world far beyond how we would see it.

The Lord's judgment is equal. He rains on the Just and unjust. So even in his mercy, the loss is given the opportunity to repent and to seek him. So we should rejoice in the fact that he keeps that level of mercy and grace for all of us.  We should praise God for that equal judgment, for without it we in the church would not be here.
