What is your Mindset?

Philippians 2:5-8

5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

I once heard a stand-up comic mock how Jesus came down from heaven to die for the world. He made light of how "God gave Moses a stick and David a slingshot, but God's only son came and died with no defense."

It wasn't that funny at the time when I heard it. It still isn't that funny. But that would be the mindset of the world. Every other servant God sent out into the world had some way to "defend" themselves, but Jesus had nothing. "Why would I want to be like Jesus and sacrifice myself for others?" Would be something a lost person might ask you. Or someone would say, "If I WAS GOD/JESUS, I would have never let that happen, I would've....." Insert any ridiculous statement you want there. The mindset set of men is limited by their own experiences and how much information they allow themselves to recieve. It is limited by their pride and their hubris.

The mindset of Christ has always been one of obedience and of humility. Who among us could say that we could be that obedient if we were in God's position? We are prideful creations. Selfish and resentful. We judge each other and stick our noses up and one another depending on what Job title we already have. But Christ has the Greatest and highest title in all of existence and yet He was humble enough to step down and die to himself and for our sakes. In order to be obedient to his father's will. Let this continue to teach us how to live our Christian lives.
