The need to spread the word

The need to spread the word

Acts 2:1–21
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

We come to the day of Pentecost, this passage is know as the day the church was made. this is the moment when the apostle gained the Holy Spirit and the Gift to speak in tongues and to present the Gospel of God in every language, it was through this we saw amazing change and growth in believers. The reason for the growth of the early church is the power they received on the day of Pentecost. This power brought enthusiasm, excitement, and growth. These same people went out and changed the world.
the Holy spirit works in you
The Power at Pentecost
The 120 People that were gathered together
Remember the purpose of the day
Wait until you are endued with power from on high then be witnesses Luke 24:47-49
Ye shall receive power and then be witnesses Acts 1:8
They were filled with the Holy Spirit Acts 2:4
Results of the day Acts 2:41
They are doing what they were suppose to in chapter 1 Praying together Acts 1:14-15
The holy spirit has come and fill the believers
The reason why all of this is happening
To be able to Present and bring soul to God
Power to witness was the process—souls saved was the product
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit so it wasn’t their power or ability
They all spoke as the Spirit gave them utterance
Power in the Holy Spirit fill the believers
With the coming of the Holy Spirit, there were two things which were symbols of the Holy Spirit—wind and fire.
Power in Language
Everyone heard in their own language 2:6, 8, 11
They spoke the wonderful works of God 2:11
All the 120 present began to speak in other languages. They had never learned these languages. It was the Holy Spirit who gave them ability to speak these languages.
Much like the tower of babel in Gen. except in stead of God separating them from one another, He was going to unit them.
What happens when The Holy spirit fills is working
The people of the World see you differently Acts 2:5-13
Concerned Acts 2:5
Leaders and devout men of every nation were present for this Feast of Pentecost.
There will be a point as the holy spirit works it will bring others around you wanting to know what change in you.
Not every one will understand what has happened to you or why
It will cause confusion
Simple, uneducated people speaking in languages they had never learned. This is the way God works. He always works through simple, yielded people.
The people do not need an ivy league scholar to tell them every last detail of the words used in the Gospel they just need to hear the Gospel
The Word need to reach the nations
Acts 2:9–11. People present from various countries.
The world of God was meant to be heard by all nations
Even Waring nation in the old testament knew of God and feared him
Today some man claim to know of God, but so many nations are still without knowing him.
There will be doubts
The people were amazed. They couldn’t understand.
Some were critical, saying these people were drunk.
Acts 2:15. It was not the practice of people to drink at the third hour 9:00 A.M.
People will judge you and be critical with you about spreading the word of God
The Purpose Behind all the wonder of Pentecost
Prophecy from Joel 2:28–32 is now being fulfilled. The prophecy was given 800 B.C.
He told them of the Holy spirit come down
But not all of the Prophecy has been fulfilled yet. But it is still to come.
But the saving Grace is this that Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Same can be said in Romans 10:13; John 6:37; and John 3:16.
Application
We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit Acts 2:4, Ephesians 5:18
We need the Spirit to give us utterance Acts 2:4, Ephesians 6:19
We need to speak the wonderful works of God Acts 2:11, II Thessalonians 3:1

The Holy Spirit will work in our churches just as it did for them, if we permit Him to do so. Some have gone to extremes in teaching the Holy Spirit, with both positive and negative result, however, this should not hinder us from allowing the Holy Spirit to have His rightful place. Will you allow the Holy Spirit to use you and see lives changed
