Whats in your Tool Belt

1 Sa 17:38–40.

38. And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.

39 . And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

40 . And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.

Saul tried to equip David with tools h that he believed would win him the battle. He believes this child could be better off using the tools he gives him over the tools God gave David.  David had fended off attacks in the past with the tools and skills that God had already given him. He sharpened them and refined them under the eyes of the Lord.

God gives skills and tools and talents to his believers and to his people.  There is no issue if you want to add to the tools and talents you have, but how do you know you need to add any if you have not exhausted the ones you already have?

David was a shepherd, a musician, and a fighter when it came to wildlife. He exercised and exhausted his tools before God decided he would add soldier and king to the list.

In short, in seeking what God has in store for your life. Think about the skills you already have and put them to practice and see where God wants you to use them and after that see what skills God will give you after.

So what's in your tool belt?
