Titus 3:5

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" 

This verse speaks on it's own, for the bible needs no interpretation, it is the truth from the Father to us. It speaks on the fact no can work to be saved. for no matter the work or how righteous we deem it, we can not buy our way out of hell. 

Too many people both religious and non-religious suffer from this belief, they believe we can fix ourselves, that we can save ourselves, "God helps those who help themselves." As the saying would go, but when has God needed our help to do anything. It is by his Mercy that we are saved. By washing of our sins, dying on the cross, bearing with him all the sins of man and coming back to life. Only Christ can save me not I nor anything my prideful mind can deem good will save me.
